(If you don't know what it is you have no business even thinking
about tattooing)
Classes are available from various sources, such as
American Red Cross
(online course)
Waynesboro Fire Department: Paul Whitmere is a dedicated professional and excellent instructor that
provides the best training in First Aid /CPR
& Universal Precautions I've taken out of the 25+ years I have been
certified.

To anyone thinking of letting a friend, relative or whoever tattoo you, look at the supplies, cases, ink bottles or
anything that may be touched by the person giving the tattoo. Is it clean or does it have ink or smudges on it. Finger
prints or ink smudges on anything means the person getting ready to give you that tattoo has touched that object
with contaminated gloves or hands. It also means they may be giving you what ever any of their previous clients
have such as Hepatitis C  The same holds true for any artist working in a shop that doesn't take time to use
and
change
barriers, such as gloves and plastic covers on machines. I have had numerous clients tell me " the last guy
that did a tattoo for me didn't cover anything".

The tattoo/piercing community has been able to proudly claim that there is no proof anyone has ever been infected
with Hepatitis C  resulting from piercing or tattooing. The truth is most people that are infected don't know so for
many years and show no signs of illness, so it is almost impossible to tell when and where transmission of the virus
occurred. The
Centers for Disease Control estimates there are 2.7-3.9 million people infected with Hepatitis C in
the USA. Unless universal or standard precautions procedures are followed by the person giving you a piercing or
tattoo the risks are very real. I believe completely in the freedom and right of every person to do with their body as
they wish and to live a long happy life. Just wanted to put this info out there so anyone willing to read it will have a
heads up next time they get a tattoo or piercing. What good is great art if you don't live long enough to enjoy it.
